NEWPORT, RI - Rhody Surf, Inc. is a locally owned company that was created and is based in Newport, Rhode Island.  It was established to simply spread a passionate love of surfing, the environment and the ocean through teaching others how to surf and thus, build their own personal connection and respect for our natural surroundings.  Not widely known as a surf destination, Rhody Surf’s mission is to help shine a brighter light on Rhode Island as the perfect place to catch your first wave.

Rhody Surf, Inc. was officially incorporated in 2011 by founder and operator, Bobby Drought.  Prior to Rhody Surf's incorporation, the Southern Rhode Island native and his crew had been teaching surf lessons as a labor of love for the past 10 years in and around Aquidneck Island - helping make them some of the most experienced and knowledgeable surf instructors throughout New England.  To learn more about Rhody Surf's team's personal stories, check out the 'Our Crew' section of the website.

Rhody Surf didn't start out as not your standard surf company.  An award-winning surf school, with a primary service at the beach, Rhody Surf shifted the surf shop paradigm to an online surf school where you can learn everything about our company, purchase our private-label surf gear, browse our instruction offerings and book a lesson on the interactive website.

Through its popular surf instruction courses, Rhody Surf has organically grown throughout the years and has tested various approaches and locations to introducing wave riding to students. Today, Rhody Surf can be found on The City by the Sea’s best beach for learning to surf - Easton’s Beach (aka First Beach). Based right on the sand, Rhody Surf’s current location provides convenience to the ocean and a large inventory of SUP and surfboard rentals. You can visit our business all summer long at First Beach, from Memorial to Labor Day.
